Keep the plastic coming!
St. Mark’s is partnering with Trex Company to help the environment while enhancing the local community by turning plastic bags into a bench that will be installed at one of the Westford public beaches. We have one year to meet the NexTrex Challenge to collect 1,000 pounds of plastic bags and other plastic wrap—items not usually accepted by town recycling programs. Once the challenge is met, Trex will reward St. Mark’s with a bench made from recycled material that will be donated to the Westford Recreation Department.
Eligible plastic items include shopping bags, dry cleaning bags, cereal box liners, bubble wrap, produce bags, bread bags, newspaper sleeves, Ziploc and other reclosable bags, and plastic wrap that surrounds something like a case of water bottles. Plastic must be clean, dry, and free of food and organic residue.
Plastic can be dropped off at the collection bin in the Narthex. Dorothy has already delivered one full box of collected plastic to Market Basket for weighing and transporting to Trex, but we have a long way to go to meet our goal by June 15, 2025. Please help us live our faith through creation care. For more information, contact dorothygaumer@gmail.com.
